I got my MS in Physics at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (PhysTech). I also hold a Gifted Education Certificate from Rutgers University, and I am currently a PhD student at Rutgers Graduate School of Education.

I have taught programming and computer basics in Russia and the U.S., and I designed my first programming "circle" for my kids and their friends when they were 5-7 years old. I stumbled upon Papert's legendary book Mindstorms and got hooked on the idea of using computer programming as a tool for mental and personal development.

Plutarch said, "The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled." I firmly believe that knowledge is not passed from a teacher to students, but students actively construct it, moved by their own motivation. For young students, it’s also very important to move from concrete to abstract, to base their learning on real-life activities. That's why I strive to promote student directed and project-based learning, rather than run lecture type classes.
